MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A bus driver who takes children to and from school in Miami-Dade County has been removed from duty after a Local 10 News viewer recorded the driver speeding in a residential area.
"The safety and well-being of our students and employees is our number one priority at Miami-Dade County Public Schools," district spokeswoman Daisy Gonzalez-Diego said. "We do not condone reckless driving of any kind. The driver in question will not be allowed to drive until we have concluded our full and thorough investigation into this matter. The welfare and security of our students is of utmost importance not only in our schools, but on our buses."
According to the man who filmed the incident, the bus was traveling southbound on Southwest 137th Avenue at about 60 to 70 mph in a 40 mph zone.
In the video, the driver is seen stopping at a red light at Bird Road and then taking off again at a high rate of speed.
The driver eventually turned into a residential area near Bent Tree Elementary School. It's unclear whether he stopped at the school.
The viewer told Local 10 News that children were on the bus at the time, although Miami-Dade County Public Schools has not confirmed that claim.
