BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. — Three of South Florida’s Supervisors of Elections came together on Wednesday.

They held a press briefing for a first-ever joint, tri-county news conference involving Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.

Speaking at the press event were Miami-Dade County Supervisor of Elections Alina Garcia, Broward County Supervisor of Elections Joe Scott and Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections Wendy Sartory Link.

The supervisors were appearing together to deliver a unified message about voter participation and the importance of making sure South Florida voters are prepared for the elections ahead.

“This unity reflects what we share,” said Garcia. “The same mission, the same responsibility and the same commitment to deliver elections that are secure, accurate transparent.”

The supervisors encouraged every eligible South Florida resident to register, stay informed and vote in the November General Election.

Between the three counties, the supervisors cover about a quarter of all Florida voters.

While each county has unique ways of handling their elections, a big topic is voting by mail.

The supervisors were asked about the safety of mail voting in the wake of comments from President Trump seemingly undermining the process.

“I’ll say this,” said Scott. “Often times when the president has spoken about vote by mail ballot, he’s actually mentioned that, for Florida, he actually believes that Florida does it right.”

Added Sartory Link: “In Florida, which isn’t the case in every state, you have to request your vote by mail ballot, and when you request it, we’re checking your name, your address, your date of birth, either your driver’s license or Florida ID or the last four of your social, so we know who we’re sending that ballot to.”
