DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. — Authorities have provided new details into a deadly crash that occurred on Saturday night in Broward County.
It happened along the 4000 block of West Hillsboro Boulevard in Deerfield Beach.
According to traffic investigators, a 2017 Nissan Sentra was making a U-turn on Hillsboro Boulevard when it was struck by a 2022 Suzuki GSX-R570 motorcycle.
The impact caused the Nissan to flip over, officials said.
Witness Chuck Trice watched the crash happen in front of him.
“The motorcycle and him were under the car and they were pulling the little kids out of the car,” he said. “The helicopters were flying in to get them and it was pretty bad.”
According to authorities, the driver of the motorcycle, Maxwell Patel, died at the scene.
A girl who was inside the Nissan was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.
The driver of the Nissan and a boy were both taken to Broward Health North by first responders, with the boy later being taken by helicopter to Broward Health Medical Center for additional treatment, authorities said.
Officials said three other passengers in the Nissan, two adults and a child, were also taken to Broward Health Medical Center.
Both hospitalized juveniles are listed in critical condition, authorities said.
A GoFundMe page set up to help with medical and funeral costs for the victims identified them and said they were on their way to dinner when the crash occurred.
“Kristi, Yamila, Karla, Gisselle, and 8-year-old Abraham were on their way to Cicis Pizza in Deerfield Beach when a motorcyclist reportedly traveling over 100 mph hit their car, leaving it overturned,” the creator of the GoFundMe page stated. “Kristi passed away, while Yamila and Abraham are in medically induced comas and two children are receiving life-saving surgery.”
