MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A 36-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing his mother at a luxury high-rise in Miami’s Brickell neighborhood appeared in court on Saturday in Miami-Dade County.
Miami police officers arrested Stefano Cremasco-Cicero after responding to his 911 call shortly after 4:45 a.m., on Friday, at the Solitair, at 86 SW 8th St., according to police.
“I was defending myself,” Cremasco-Cicero — who had blood on his shoes, hands, and clothing — said in the lobby of the building, according to a Miami police officer’s arrest report.
Surveillance video showed Cremasco-Cicero and his mother going up to the 47th floor in the elevator at about 10:30 p.m. on Friday at the Soltair, according to police.
Cremasco-Cicero’s mother was in his 47th-floor apartment with several stab wounds when Miami Fire Rescue personnel pronounced her dead shortly after 5:05 a.m. on Friday, according to the police report.
The gruesome discovery left some neighbors in the building unsettled.
“Oh super scary,” said resident Zach Carson. “I went back in my apartment, locked my balcony door, locked my door, and kinda just looked in the peep hole for 10 minutes until I took the stairs 47 flights down.”
In June, NRN reported Cremasco-Cicero was the operating manager of the U.S. branch of The Grupo Orfano, a hospitality group with 18 restaurants, including the 1986 Steak House, which opened in May in Miami’s Coconut Grove.
Miami-Dade corrections booked Cremasco-Cicero shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Friday at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he remained on Saturday afternoon, according to inmate records.
Cremasco-Cicero was wearing a green anti-suicide smock when he stood before Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Lissette De La Rosa at about 11:50 a.m. on Saturday in bond court.
Prosecutors filed a case against Cremasco-Cicero, also known as Stefano Cremascocicero, on a charge of second-degree murder with a weapon on Saturday, according to Miami-Dade County court records.
De La Rosa denied Cremasco-Cicero’s bond. He also had a hold related to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to county court records.
Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Ellen Sue Venzer was set to preside over the case. The court set his pre-trial detention hearing for 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
