MIAMI SPRINGS, Fla. — Two suspects were arrested following a string of vehicle burglaries across Miami Springs that resulted in two vehicles and a gun being stolen, police confirmed Thursday.
According to Miami Springs police, the crime spree began at approximately 1 a.m. Wednesday when two males wearing hoodies entered the city through a catwalk near North Royal Poinciana Boulevard.
Police said the suspects traveled through several areas, including Raven, Plover, Quail, Albatross, Swallow, North Royal Poinciana and South Royal Poinciana.
They said more than 15 vehicles were burglarized during the spree, and two vehicles and a gun were also stolen.
Detectives eventually located both stolen vehicles in West Hialeah, police said. Although the vehicles were initially unoccupied, detectives conducted surveillance for more than four hours.
Investigators said two males were eventually seen getting into one of the stolen vehicles.
Miami Springs detectives followed the vehicle and, with assistance from the Hialeah Police Department’s K-9 Unit and the Florida Highway Patrol’s Criminal Interdiction Unit, conducted a felony traffic stop.
Both suspects were taken into custody at about 3 p.m., less than 16 hours after the burglaries began, according to police.
Both stolen vehicles were recovered and returned to their owners.
Following interviews with the suspects, Miami Springs detectives went to the Hialeah home of one of them, according to the department.
Police said investigators recovered six guns from the home, including the gun stolen during the Miami Springs crime spree.
The other five guns had been stolen during a separate burglary in Hialeah, according to police.
One of the suspects was identified by police as 22-year-old Christopher Caceres. The other suspect appears to be a juvenile as police blurred his face in video they released Thursday.
“A reminder to our residents: Make locking your vehicle part of your nightly routine,” the police department posted on social media. “Never leave valuables unattended, and always ensure firearms and other valuable items are properly secured.”
As of Thursday afternoon, Caceres was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. Online jail records listed his bond as “to be set.”
