MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. — A teacher at a Lincoln Marti daycare center in southwest Miami-Dade was arrested Monday on accusations that she grabbed a 2-year-old boy by his neck and shook him, authorities confirmed.
According to an arrest report from the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened at about 10 a.m. Monday at the Lincoln Marti at 15198 SW 288th St.

Deputies said the victim was misbehaving in the classroom, at which time his teacher, Beatriz Gomez-Hurtado, 53, of Homestead, “reprimanded” him.
Deputies said the toddler then laid on the ground while having a “temper tantrum.”
According to the report, Gomez-Hurtado then lifted the victim up by his wrist, stood him upright and then placed both of her hands around his neck and face while shaking him back and forth a few times.

Gomez-Hurtado then placed the toddler in a timeout chair, authorities said.
Deputies said the young boy sustained a mark on the right side of his neck and bruising on his left cheek.
According to the report, Gomez-Hurtado invoked her right to remain silent and was arrested on a charge of child abuse without great bodily harm.
The Cuban national was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $5,000 bond until she was released Tuesday evening. She had nothing to say while walking out of the jail.
A Miami-Dade County judge also ordered her to stay away from both the victim and the daycare.
This is not the first time a Lincoln Marti school has made headlines in South Florida for disturbing allegations.
In 2016, Clara Quintero-Gonzalez, who worked at a Lincoln Marti school in Miami Beach, was arrested after police said she physically abused multiple students.
In 2022, the family of 9-month-old Tayvon Tomlin sued Lincoln Marti Schools after the baby was found unresponsive at a Lincoln Marti daycare in Homestead and then pronounced dead at a hospital. The family claimed the center was inadequately staffed and that workers lacked proper training.
Another teacher, Merlin Gutierrez, who was captured on surveillance video abusing a 2-year-old girl at a Lincoln Marti, located at 22165 Southwest 112th Avenue, took a plea deal last year in which she was sentenced to five years of probation. As part of the deal, she is not considered a convicted felon.
