WESTON, Fla. — Authorities reported several people were injured and two had lost their lives after a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 75.
It happened late Sunday morning along the westbound lanes of I-75 to the west of Indian Trade Road in Weston.
There appeared to be a white Dodge sedan, a blue minivan and a motorcycle that were involved in the crash.
Rescue crews said there were multiple trauma alerts among the injured that included a 1-year-old who was taken by helicopter to the hospital.
Five people were taken to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale, where two of the victims died.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, one of the drivers involved in the crash had a suspended driver’s license.
FHP identified the driver as 60-year-old Cira Quinones Lewis.
FHP said Lewis was being held in custody due to a request by U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officers.
First responders closed all westbound lanes of I-75 while processing the scene. The highway fully reopened shortly after 4 p.m.
