HOMESTEAD, Fla. — Police officers reported on Tuesday that they had found a 14-year-old girl in Homestead after she had vanished for more than a month.
According to police, Yarilis Mendez-Carrillo was reported missing on March 11 by her grandmother and was last seen in the 300 block of Southwest 12th Avenue.
Her grandmother told Local 10’s Janine Stanwood that she last saw her granddaughter at about 7:30 p.m. that night.
Police said Mendez-Carrillo did not have a cellphone and had not been in contact with anyone since she was reported missing.
Mendez-Carrillo is described by police as a Hispanic female, who is 4 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs about 130 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes.
Police said she has a large circular scar on her upper right thigh.
Mendez-Carrillo was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and blue shorts.
A Missing Child Alert was issued by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
