WILTON MANORS, Fla. – The show will go on for drag queens as usual in South Florida while Gov. Ron DeSantis continues his fight in court to be able to implement his ban.
Henry Williams, better known as Tiffany Fantasia, is among the opponents who claim the ban is a violation of First Amendment rights.
“They are trying to overreach,” Williams said about the ban adding that lawmakers should be “handling the things they need to be handling.”
Two out of three 11th Circuit Court of Appeals judges sided with a lower court’s decision Tuesday citing the ban as “likely unconstitutional.”
The DeSantis administration released a statement describing the judges’ vote as an “egregious overreach” because “no one has a constitutional right to perform sexual routines in front of little kids.”
Anthony Verdugo, founder of the Christian Family Coalition, released a statement reacting to the judges’ recent vote.
“The First Amendment protects the right to free speech, particularly political speech, from government censorship,” Verdugo said. “However, no court has ever ruled that there is a First Amendment right for a child to be exposed to adult entertainment or performances.”
The judges’ vote returned the case to the Middle District of Florida. DeSantis vowed to fight the case.
