The shooting happened around 2 p.m. at a home near the corner of Northwest 27th Avenue and Sixth Court.

Deputies said they arrived to find the child suffering from a gunshot wound and quickly rushed him to a nearby hospital. Relatives at the scene told reporters they had no idea what led up to the shooting or who was responsible.

“We don’t know,” said Vince Dennis, a neighbor, when asked who fired the shot. “Yeah, it’s sad.”

Crime scene tape surrounded the home for hours as investigators moved in and out, gathering evidence and speaking with neighbors and family members.

Video from Sky 10 showed Sixth Court blocked off as deputies canvassed the area.

Some neighbors said they were surprised to learn children even lived in the home.

While relatives said they expect the child to survive, they are still searching for answers about what happened inside the home that led to the young boy being shot.

Authorities have not said if any adult or adults may face charges or if a weapon has been recovered.

Anyone with information is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
