David Knezevich is the Fort Lauderdale man charged in the kidnapping and murder of his estranged wife, Ana Maria Henao.

She vanished in Spain in February of 2024.

Prosecutors allege Knezevich lied about being in South Florida when his wife disappeared.

As far as motive, court records point to money disagreements amid divorce discussions documented on WhatsApp.

Knezevich’s attorneys provided Local 10 News the following statement:

“The Defense team is devastated to learn of this news. We sincerely hope that an appropriate and prompt investigation will be conducted.” - Jayne Weintraub, Christopher Cavallo, Bruce Zimet, defense counsel for David Knezevich

Knezevich was arrested in May of last year at Miami International Airport and had been in jail ever since while awaiting trial.

The family of Knezevich’s estranged wife, through their attorney, Adam Ingber, issued the following statement:

“The suicide of Ana’s murderer closes a painful chapter in our lives, previously filled with the dread that he might not face justice. Now, we may never know where he put Ana’s body.

“It is a cruel final insult that we may never recover Ana’s remains or know the full extent of the betrayal she suffered. Still, we remain committed to seeking the truth and justice for Ana through our attorney, Mr. Ingber, and to preserving Ana’s memory while honoring her life with dignity, strength, and love.”

“We are thankful to the authorities that they continue to investigate and to search for Anna’s body

Ingber added: “While his death spares this family from the agony of a trial, it also leaves many questions unanswered, which we continue to pursue”
