Jeffrey Taylor, 64, of Liberty City, was taken into custody on Thursday in connection with the June 13, 1986 killing of 49-year-old Shirley Brant.

North Miami Beach police said Taylor fatally shot Brant while she was working at her office located at 16375 NE 18th Ave. and on the phone.

They said Taylor, then 26, was one of two men who entered the office and demanded that Brant hang up. Police said Taylor shot Brant amid a struggle.

She was taken to the since-demolished Parkway Regional Hospital, where she later died.

Authorities said a review of the case by agency cold case detectives who came out of retirement to help solve the case revealed latent fingerprints that hadn’t been entered into a database “due to not meeting certain criteria at the time.”

On March 21, the prints came back to Taylor, police said.

He’s now facing a second-degree murder charge.

As of Friday, he was being held without bond in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.

Brant’s family members will be holding a news conference with North Miami Beach police at 3 p.m.
