Authorities said Terol Castel Lyn, 24, of Coconut Creek, stole $55,000 from an elderly victim between April 15 and 16.

According to police, the victim received phone calls from a suspect who said they were a Wells Fargo bank employee and that their bank account was involved in an active criminal investigation.

Police said the suspect on the phone told the victim to withdraw large sums of money and then to deliver the cash to an FBI agent, who was later identified as Lyn.

After the victim had given Lyn $35,000 on April 15 and $20,000 on April 16, authorities said the victim’s son became aware of what was happening and called the police.

Officers said they arranged a meeting between Lyn and the victim, and after initially running away from police, Lyn was eventually taken into custody.

He is now facing charges of felony larceny on a victim 65 years or older, felony fleeing and eluding, felony fraud and possession of amphetamine.

Lyn remains behind bars at the BSO Main Jail.

Police believe there may be additional suspects who were involved in this scheme and are actively investigating. They said there are “possibly additional victims” as well.

Anyone with information is urged to call PPPD or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
