Miami Gardens police say 36-year-old Shaneeka Daschell Harris was arrested after allegedly shooting her husband, Aaron Swatts, and her 15-year-old son, during a domestic dispute that escalated into gunfire inside their townhome.

According to the report, officers were dispatched to the home near the 19000 block of Northwest 46th Avenue just after 6:30 a.m. Friday in response to a 911 call reporting a shooting.

Upon arriving, officers said they saw movement in an upstairs window and ordered the occupants to come outside.

Authorities said one of Harris’ sons exited the home and told officers that his brother had been shot in the foot.

Moments later, Harris walked out with her 15-year-old son, who had suffered a gunshot wound to the right thigh, the report stated. She also informed officers that her husband was still inside.

When officers entered the home to conduct a protective sweep, authorities said they found Swatts lying unresponsive at the entrance to an upstairs bedroom after he was shot in the back.

They said a black handgun was recovered from a piece of furniture in another bedroom and ammunition was found on the staircase.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue airlifted Swatts to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 7:41 a.m., according to the report.

Investigators said Harris and one of her sons were taken to a Miami Gardens police station for interviews. The teenager who was shot was treated at the hospital before also being brought in for questioning.

All three gave statements, and according to police, Harris waived her Miranda rights and made a confession that was redacted in the publicly-released report.

During the 911 call, one of the boys identified Harris as the shooter of both his sibling and Swatts, authorities said.

In the background of the call, a woman’s voice — believed to be Harris — can be heard saying, “This man made me shoot my f-----g son,” according to the report.

Harris’ son also told the dispatcher that she still had the gun in her possession after the shooting, the report stated.

Investigators said Harris and Swatts were married in 2022 and had been in an on and off relationship for over a decade. Though he did not live at the home full-time, he often spent time there with Harris and her sons from a previous marriage, authorities said.

Officers said they recovered a 9 mm Walther CCP handgun at the scene with an 8-round capacity, along with three spent shell casings and five live rounds. They said both siblings reportedly confirmed hearing a warning shot and the subsequent gunfire.

Jail records show Harris was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center shortly before 11 p.m. Friday. She is facing one count of second-degree murder with a deadly weapon.

She appeared before a judge Saturday morning and was ordered to be held without bond.

Harris is expected back in court on Monday.

A motive for the shooting was not disclosed in the arrest report.
