According to an arrest report, the shooting occurred around 3:30 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Red Rooster, located at 920 NW Second Ave. in the city’s Overtown neighborhood.
Miami police said a responding officer was flagged down by two witnesses who identified the gunman as Carlton Ziv Davis, who also goes by the nickname “Red.”
According to the report, one of the witnesses, who lives nearby, told the officer that he was speaking with some women next to his apartment building when he saw the victim, known to the witnesses as “White Boy,” standing outside.
He said he asked the victim what he was doing and the victim said he was waiting for Davis.
According to the report, the witness told police that the suspect and victim were longtime friends and had been drinking together.
He said the two eventually started arguing and the victim tried to punch Davis, but missed.
According to the witness, the victim then walked toward Davis, at which time Davis pulled out a gun and shot him.
Police said the witness informed the officer that Davis appeared to be intoxicated at the time of the shooting.
According to the arrest report, the victim who had been shot in the abdomen, was not armed at the time of the shooting.
He was transported by Miami Fire Rescue to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition. He later died from his injuries at 11:26 a.m.
Davis was arrested on a charge of second-degree murder. It’s unclear what the two men were arguing about prior to the shooting.
As of Monday, he remained held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond.
