MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputy fatally shot a man Sunday night after responding to a domestic dispute, authorities confirmed.
According to MDSO, deputies responded to the scene at the Tuscany 3 Village in the area of Southwest 130th Avenue and 132nd Terrace shortly before 6:30 p.m.
Noon report:
The victim told Local 10 News that she was unknowingly followed from Georgia to South Florida by her husband.
Authorities said the 911 dispatcher who took the call from the victim could hear a struggle before the woman told the dispatcher that her husband was armed.
According to MDSO, a responding deputy made contact with the husband, who pulled out a gun.
The deputy then shot at the man, striking him, authorities said.
MDSO confirmed that the suspect was transported to a hospital by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, where he was pronounced dead.
The deputy was not injured during the incident.
Authorities confirmed that they recovered the suspect’s firearm.
The husband and wife’s identities have not been released nor further details involving the initial dispute.
“I would really like to say that if you are an individual who is in crisis and with a domestic violence situation, call 911, please. Let us come to help you. That is our job, and we will do it gladly,” Sheriff Rosie Cordero-Stutz said.
Neighbors told Local 10 News they are thankful kids were not playing outdoors, like they typically do on Sunday evenings.
“My son comes out and plays with the neighborhood kids, and in a moment like that, something worse could have happened, with the kids, the bikes -- this is a neighborhood where a lot of kids do come out, they play with each other, they go, they knock on each other’s doors to come out and that does bring some insecurity to us,” Ashley Arenares said.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
