According to police, officers responded to the 4400 block of Northwest 203rd Terrace just before 11:30 a.m. and found an elderly Hispanic woman suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

6 p.m. report:

Police said the suspect, identified only as the victim’s son-in-law, shot the victim before taking off in a blue Ford F-150, heading south from the area.

The victim was airlifted by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to a local hospital for treatment.

“There is no threat to the residents of this community,” Miami Gardens police spokeswoman Diana Delgado said. “This is a domestic incident that is being handled by our investigation.”

A motive for the shooting remains unknown.

“We don’t know what caused him to fire a shot at the mother-in-law, but the son-in-law did fire a shot at the mother-in-law who does reside at the residence,” Delgado said.

Mayra Camaro told Local 10 News she spoke to a man who rendered aid to the woman who was shot.

“She was talking. The guy who found her said she was talking and she was answering him all the questions and everything,” she said.

Camaro recounted what the suspect, who has two young kids, told her about 8-to-10 months ago when he moved out.

“They had gotten separated because he has a problem with the mother,” she said. “Ten years (she has) been with him, and (he has) been nothing but good to her. (He said), ‘I love my kids.’ I said, ‘I know you do.’ (He was) very calm -- never seen him angry, upset or anything like that.”

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call police or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
