The shooting happened around 9:30 p.m. Monday at the Extended Stay along Northwest Seventh Street and 69th Avenue in northwest Miami-Dade.

According to investigators, Miami-Dade homicide detectives were at the hotel conducting surveillance on a suspect involved in a fatal double shooting earlier that morning.

Deputies say as they tried to arrest the man as he was getting into his car, there was an exchange of gunfire.

Witnesses told Local 10 News they heard four five gunshots, which sounded like fireworks.

“My wife seen the cops around the hotel, but I didn’t know what happened,” one witness said.

The suspect died at the scene.

No deputies were injured in the shooting and a gun was recovered from the man’s vehicle.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is now investigating the police shooting.

The suspect’s identity has not yet been released, however deputies confirmed Tuesday that he is the suspect wanted for a shooting that occurred early Monday morning in the area of 2722 NW 30th St.

According to MDSO, three victims were standing outside a food truck when the suspect fired at them.

Authorities confirmed that a 27-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene and a man was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where he also died.

Deputies said the third victim was not injured in the shooting.

A motive for the killings remains unclear.
