Detective Joseph R. Peguero Rivera, a spokesman for the Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office, identified the victim as Flavio Alejandro Morales.
“The victim was playing sports when he was involved in a verbal altercation,” Peguero Rivera wrote in a statement released Tuesday.
Homicide detectives were searching for the player who pulled out a gun during the argument and shot Morales on Monday at Naranja Park.
Deputies and fire rescue personnel reported finding Morales on the ground after the gunman ran away at about 7:05 p.m., at 14150 SW 264 St.
Fire rescue personnel used a helicopter to fly Morales to the hospital where he later died, according to deputies.
“I do want to ask our community ... if you are involved in an altercation ... please just walk away,” Peguero Rivera said on Monday night.
Detectives asked anyone with information about this or other cases to call Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477 to remain anonymous.
