MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – Surveillance video obtained by Local 10 News Monday shows a former Circle K employee handing off rolls of Lottery scratch-offs to another man without charging him — part of a scheme that authorities say led to the theft of more than $15,000 worth of tickets from a Lower Keys gas station.
Jorge Acevedo Perez, 47, of Big Coppitt Key, was arrested and faces one charge of grand theft and conspiracy, according to Adam Linhardt, a spokesman with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say Perez worked with 20-year-old David Dackens Pluviose, of Key West, to pull off the scratch-off heist.
Authorities said Pluviose, who formerly worked at the Circle K on Overseas Highway, is seen on store surveillance video multiple times handing over large stacks of tickets to Acevedo Perez for free.
Investigators say the pair can also be seen later cashing in the stolen tickets — which paid out roughly $8,000 — at a nearby supermarket.
Detectives are still searching for Pluviose and confirmed that more charges may be coming.
