Fort Lauderdale animal rescue group seeks to find ‘furever’ homes for pets of all sizes

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Big dogs like Paige and Mushu often face longer odds in the shelter system — but rescue groups across South Florida are teaming up to make sure they get the second chance they deserve.

Local 10 Animal Advocate Jacey Birch visited Abandoned Pet Rescue in Fort Lauderdale to spotlight their mission of rescuing and rehabilitating dogs straight from the streets.

Kara, a volunteer at the shelter, explained that Abandoned Pet Rescue works closely with other local organizations to get dogs healthy and ready for adoption.

“Just like Paige, Mushu here was abandoned and it took a couple of rescue groups — like we all worked together to get him healthy, and now he’s here at Abandoned Pet Rescue and ready for adoption,” Kara said.

Despite the trauma they’ve endured, Paige and Mushu still crave affection and human connection.

“You can tell she’s been through a lot, but you haven’t left my lap,” Birch said as Paige leaned in for more cuddles. “You just want all the cuddles and the kisses.”

Birch encouraged viewers to help by adopting, fostering or even visiting the shelter.

Abandoned Pet Rescue has plenty of dogs — big and small — as well as cats, all looking for loving homes.

The shelter is open to visitors and always in need of support from the Fort Lauderdale community and beyond. Click here for more information.
