MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Newly released videos show the race to save lives after a three-vehicle crash involving a group of kids who were celebrating a boy’s birthday.
First responders found three children, a teenage girl, and four adults in the wreckage on Feb. 8, in Miami Gardens, police said.
Detectives later reported a 25-year-old man was driving a black Kia Sorento at 99 mph before the crash also involving a Nissan Altima and a Cadillac Escalade at Northwest 170 Street and 37 Avenue.
According to police, five died -- three children, a teenager, and a grandmother. Five were injured -- a boy, a couple, and Antonio Wilcox, the driver of the Kia Sorento.
The three children among the dead were Kamari Graham, who was celebrating his 10th birthday, 8-year-old Azariah McCall, and 10-year-old Ireana Johnson.
The other two dead were 13-year-old Ka’Myra Graham, who was declared brain dead in the hospital, and Rosa Jones, who was 51. A 7-year-old boy and Donika Johnson and Ariel Johnson survived.
After his arrest in Broward County and his extradition to Miami-Dade County, Wilcox, of Naples, appeared in court on Feb. 19.
Court records show Wilcox faced 13 charges: Five counts of reckless vehicular homicide, five counts of manslaughter, and three counts of reckless driving causing serious injury. He has a pre-trial detention hearing at 9:30 a.m., on April 29.
