South Florida LGBTQ+ athletes give back with big donation

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – South Florida’s largest LGBTQ+ sports league came together to do some good for those in need.

Rainbow Sports League collected nearly 30,000 new items over a span of a few weeks to support Broward House, a treatment center for people living with HIV.

From brand-new clothes to toiletries and bed linens, the 250-plus players donated more than $55,000 worth of items.

Broward House will assemble the items into “dignity baskets” and will give them to people impacted by chronic health challenges in need of transitional housing.

“What really touched me,” said Rainbow Sports League Commissioner Alex Plaza, “was that every one of our teams participated. Our players really came through for such a worthy cause.”

Victoria Walter of Broward House said, “We went from bare shelves to filling two storage rooms with valuable goods, all thanks to the hard work and generosity of Rainbow’s kickball players. We can’t thank them enough.”

Rainbow Sports League was founded in 2017 with the philosophy that all people are welcome to participate in sports and activities in a safe, social, and inclusive environment.
