Viral video allegedly shot inside Krome Detention Center raising questions about treatment of detained migrants

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – New video is raising concerns about the conditions at Krome Detention Center in west Miami-Dade County, where ICE holds illegal immigrants.

One man currently being held there is claiming he and other are going through an agonizing wait to be processed.

We know DHS has been working to expand its detention capacity as more and more undocumented immigrants are being detained for deportation.

Local 10 News has not been able to confirm the veracity of the videos.

The images seen by millions on social media show multiple men sleeping on the floor and under rows of chairs.

Some are using surgical masks while others using are masks to cover their eyes.

The man who appeared to be recording the videos did so in hiding.

In Spanish, the man is begging for help, saying some of them have been in detention for weeks without access to a phone.

The man even called on the Mexican President for support.

Local 10 News reached out to ICE about the videos.

A spokesperson said they could not confirm or deny the veracity of what was seen or even if it’s the Krome facility, but the spokesperson confirmed the agency is looking into it.

Immigration Attorney Saman Movassaghi Gonzalez said the videos that have gone viral on Tiktok point to concerns she and others have been raising, claiming the Krome facility is overcrowded with immigrants waiting to learn their fate.

“I don’t have a doubt about that, that is Krome,” Movassaghi Gonzalez said of the videos. “Krome is a detention facility that is suitable to bed about 500 bed spaces, last known figures based on reports and also communicating with others attorneys has between 1,700 and 1,800 people”

As the Trump Administration’s mass deportation operation is in effect, Movassaghi Gonzalez and others believe ICE does not have the resources to keep up.

“So at what point do we recognize that this is not safe,” she asked.

ICE tells us detainees are not allowed to have cell phone videos.

Local 10 News has reached out to DHS multiple times to find out what is the current capacity of the Krome facility versus what is the number of people detained here, but they have not been able to provide those figures as of the time of this story’s publishing.
