MIRAMAR, Fla. ā Police have released the body-worn camera footage showing their response to an assault in Miramar.
The crime itself took place outside a convenience store on Feb. 23.
Family members said the victim is a 31-year-old man who they said suffers from mental illness.
According to police, the victim held the door to the store open for a woman when the suspect got out of a car, approached the victim from behind with a gun and struck him in the head with it.
Three hours after the attack, when the victim went home and told his mom what happened, she called police.
Surveillance video of the attack is heavily blurred.
What you canāt see is a 31-year-old man moments before being assaulted at gunpoint.
In a twist, when police arrive the victim says he doesnāt want to prosecute, though his mother is adamant that she wants charges.
Miramar police decided to move forward with the search for the attacker and in early March, police held a news conference releasing the video in hopes of someone recognizing him.
Anyone with information is urged to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
