Several tenants were forced to wait outside as deputies with the Broward Sheriff’s Office arrived to investigate the incident along the 200 block of Southwest First Terrace at approximately 3:30 a.m.

A witness told Local 10 News two men were arguing when it turned violent.

Deputies have since arrested 50-year-old Thelson Smith on two counts of attempted murder.

“Well I was out exercising and I’m getting ready to go to church, and I exercise every morning before I go to work and before I go to church, and I just happen to look down the road here and I grew up down the block and I thought I’d just come over here and see what was going on,” said witness Darrel Adams.

It all unfolded on the second story of the building. Deputies were seen searching the perimeter, including a dumpster, spotting a bloodied piece of clothing right out front.

“We need more love in our hearts, and we need to try and help people more often and just try and pick up our community, make it a better place for all of us,” said Adams.
