FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Family members and loved ones gathered Thursday to remember a young boy whose life was lost too soon after a second arrest was made in the case.
Three-year-old Rylo Yancy’s face was on giant cardboard cuts outs and even on T-shirts with his favorite Spider-Man character. He is still very much in the hearts of the people who love and miss him the most.
“The last seven and a half months, time has stood still for us while the world kept moving,” said Damia Gilner, Rylo’s cousin.
Last summer, Rylo was killed by a stray bullet in broad daylight while playing on the playground at Riverland Park in Fort Lauderdale during a child’s birthday party.
Earlier this week, police arrested 20-year old Tyler Tyrone Hollins on a first-degree murder charge, accusing him of being one of several gunmen that day that involved a violent dispute that didn’t even involve Rylo’s family.
“They took his life, he was only 3 years old and they shattered our whole entire family,” said Todera Scott, Rylo’s cousin.
Hugs from homicide detectives Thursday with Rylo’s loved ones signaled even more good news as a second arrest was made in the case.
Police have arrested 23-year-old Thaddeus Squire III, who faces a charge of being an accessory after the fact.
Police said he was the getaway driver in the car that Hollins fired from.
Prayers are being answered for the family as they take a giant leap toward justice for Rylo.
“We also want to thank the community. Your tips and prayers have gotten us to this moment,” said Gilner.
