Sweetwater residents living near the ruins of mobile homes mistrust property owner’s report on asbestos

Miami-Dade inspectors to verify property owner’s inspection at Li’l Abner Mobile Home Park

There have been concerns about asbestos, so Miami-Dade County inspectors want to verify reports from the property owner’s inspectors saying there wasn’t a problem.

“You see garbage everywhere ... they lie every time,” said Dudley Herrera, who is among the residents at the mobile park who mistrust the property owner.

Marina Valdovino, a resident, said in Spanish that she can’t afford to find another home and move out before the demolition. She is asking the property owner to pay more in reparations.

Two men took a bathroom vanity out of an abandoned mobile home and refused to talk about it. As residents worry about a lack of security, Doral police officers used the abandoned mobile homes to train their police dogs.

Earlier this month, there was a fire, and David Winker, the attorney who represents a group of residents, blamed the property owner for the mobile home park’s dangerous conditions.
