A brief, cold punch of air is getting ready to hit South Florida.
As skies remain clear Thursday night and northwest winds stir, the stage is set for temperatures to dip to the low and mid 50s across Miami-Dade and Broward counties Friday morning, 10 or more degrees below average for this time of year.
Some far western suburbs may even slip to the upper 40s.
The chilly weather may come as a shock considering the first five days of March brought near seasonable or milder than normal low temperatures.
In addition, February delivered more than its fair share of warm weather. During that month, the mercury dipped under 60 degrees Fahrenheit just one time in Miami. That was Feb. 21 when the temperature dropped to 59 degrees. It is worth noting that February 2025 ranks as the fifth warmest February in Miami on record.
Though Friday gets off to a nippy start, the chill will be short-lived as the flow around an area of high pressure becomes southeasterly during the afternoon. Temperatures are expected to climb to about 80 degrees.
The weather gets even warmer through the weekend. High temperatures in the mid-80s are forecast.
Records may be challenged on Sunday.
