Safety, security big priorities as Spring Break partygoers flock to Miami Beach

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Spring Break is in full swing in Miami Beach.

Traffic getting onto Miami Beach may not be the most fun experience, but once there, partygoers sure seemed to be enjoying themselves against the backdrop of a heavy police presence from an array of agencies.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was there on Thursday talking about all of the resources going into Spring Break security.

5 p.m. report:

The plan is to not just crack down on misbehavior, but deter it.

“It’s fun,” said Spring Breaker Mia Fernandez. “We’ve had a lot of fun so far. They said multiple times that it’s going to be strict out here.”

“What do you make of that?” asked Local 10′s Christian De La Rosa.

“Kind of boring this year a little bit,” she said. “Yeah, underwhelming.”

Some visitors were not happy about the parking rates.

“I think if they’re going to be blocking a hell of a lot of parking, they need to lower the parking garage prices cause it’s way too expensive,” said Izzy Perez. “This is more expensive than Los Angeles.”

We know that’s not going to happen, as the $100 parking rates are part of the city’s crackdown on crowd control, as are the barricades blocking parking pretty much all over the entertainment district.

On top of that, law enforcement is flooding the area to make sure everyone is behaving.

City leaders say this is exactly what they want to see.
