It happened Wednesday at approximately 3:08 p.m. in the area of the 1500 block of Northwest Fifth Avenue in Florida City.

6 p.m. report:

According to police, first responders arrived at the scene to find 15-year-old patient who had been shot in the leg.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue rushed the teen to a nearby hospital for treatment as a trauma alert.

Authorities said the teen was alert and conscious and was able to provide information to investigators about what happened.

Resident Alvin Pittman was more than a witness as bullets flew past him and narrowly missing his family, who were all sitting right outside.

“We saw it all,” he said. “I’m scared and I just thank God that my little baby didn’t get hit.”

That little girl who is one day shy of her first birthday was seated inside of a pink toy car under the watchful eye of her grandfather and other relatives when they randomly decided to end her play time and to bring her indoors.

About 40 seconds later, a car rolled up and someone inside pointed a gun at a 15-year old boy who just happened to be walking by.

“The car came from that way and they shot at him,” said Pittman. “I guess the gun got jammed and the guy took off running.”

Authorities have not provided any official information on what led up to the incident or if they are seeking any suspects or persons of interest.
