According to Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue, the crash happened at around 7:30 a.m. near mile marker 40.

BSFR Battalion Chief Michael Kane said crews found the roughly 40-year-old trucker trapped inside the cab with “significant leg injuries.”

Crews had to undertake a complex, 90-minute process to remove him, Kane said.

“Once freed, the patient was stabilized and airlifted via BSFR MEDIVAC helicopter to Broward Health Fort Lauderdale as a Level 1 Trauma Alert,” he said. “His injuries, while serious, are not considered life-threatening.”

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
