The school is located at 19355 SW 114th Ave., in South Miami Heights.

Authorities said Steven Mistor was taken into custody by the Miami-Dade Schools Police Department on Feb. 7 after a school administrator discovered a steak knife in his backpack during a search.

Jail records show he is facing one county each of aggravated assault and possession of a weapon on school grounds.

According to an arrest report obtained by Local 10 News on Friday, the incident began when another student, identified as the victim, confronted Mistor about text messages he had allegedly sent to the victim’s girlfriend, threatening to slap her.

The report states that as the victim approached Mistor, he saw Mistor reach into his backpack, pull out a knife, and say, “Touch me, I’ve got something for you.”

A witness told police that they saw Mistor pull out a black object as students nearby began yelling, “He’s got a knife.” Fearing for their safety, the witness and others backed away from the situation, the report stated.

School surveillance cameras recorded the encounter, according to investigators.

Police said the video footage shows the victim walking up to Mistor on the school’s basketball courts.

In response, Mistor walked toward his backpack, reached inside, and then hid an object under the front of his shirt, police said.

Shortly after, they said the victim and nearby students can be seen stepping back and walking away.

After being alerted to the situation, the school’s dean of discipline, Sedrick Cherry, called Mistor into his office and conducted an administrative search, uncovering the knife, according to the report.

The report states that Mistor spontaneously uttered a comment during the search, but the details were redacted. Cherry then notified police, who responded to the school.

When officers arrived, they read Mistor his Miranda rights, but he did not make any further statements.

The victim’s mother was contacted and informed of the incident. She advised officers that she wished to press criminal charges against Mistor, according to the report.

Authorities said Mistor was arrested without incident and transported to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center by Miami-Dade Schools police officers. His mother was also notified of the arrest.

As part of the investigation, police said they impounded the school’s surveillance footage and the steak knife as evidence.

Mistor did not appear as an inmate on Miami-Dade’s jail website as of Friday morning. His bond information wasn’t immediately available.

“Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) is aware of an incident involving students at Miami Southridge Senior High School,” the school district said in a statement to Local 10 News. “The matter was immediately addressed by the school’s administration and by the Miami-Dade Schools Police Department subsequently resulting in an arrest. The District takes the safety and well-being of our students and staff very seriously and remains committed to maintaining a secure school environment for all.”
