Broward high school student arrested over threat appears in court

PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – Broward County Public Schools was dealing with yet another student’s threat on Friday.

A Charles W. Flanagan High School student was arrested over graffiti in a restroom on campus, The Pembroke Pines Police Department announced Friday.

“There was no credible threat made against the students, staff or campus,” a department’s spokesperson wrote on X. “The school remains safe & secure.”

The student, a 17-year-old girl in 10th grade, appeared before Broward County Circuit Judge Stacy Ross in juvenile court in Fort Lauderdale.

Connie Johnson, the girl’s grandmother, testified in court. She said her granddaughter has been having difficulty coping with bullying at school.

“She knows that was a mistake. She is very, very sad,” Johnson said outside of the courtroom.

Ross ordered a 21-day detention and a mental health assessment. She also issued a stay-away order.
