According to the restaurant’s website, its first location opened in 1984 serving Italian favorites and pizza in a family friendly environment.

In April 2019, it was named the Senate Small Business of the Week by U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL).

“The Big Cheese is not just a great restaurant; they are also an incredible supporter of the Miami community. During the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, they donated food to the Monroe County Emergency Operations Center. The Big Cheese is also the official sponsor of the University of Miami Athletic department, providing both the Hurricanes and their competitors with pre-game meals,” said Rubio.

Archer was beloved by the South Florida community for his generosity and love for the University of Miami.

Archer owned The Big Cheese with business partner Garry Duell, and the restaurant is still serving guests at its location at 8080 SW 67 Avenue in Miami.

“Bill and I were partners for 42 years until he suddenly passed. We will keep it going and continue to serve our loyal customers. He will be severely missed,” said Duell.
