MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A man died after the force of a crash with a tractor-trailer truck on Florida’s Turnpike propelled his car into a canal Friday in southern Miami-Dade County.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Publix tractor-trailer truck and the gray Hyundai the man was driving collided along the Turnpike’s northbound lanes near Mile Marker 8.
According to Lt. Alex Camacho, a spokesman for FHP, the Hyundai “drove off the roadway into a grassy area ... overturned and landed in a canal.”
Rescue divers helped the man out of the Hyundai and the canal and fire rescue personnel flew him to the HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, according to Camacho. The man died at the hospital.
All Turnpike lanes reopened around 3:30 p.m.
