According to Lt. Alex Camacho, a spokesman for FHP, the Hyundai “drove off the roadway into a grassy area ... overturned and landed in a canal.”

Rescue divers helped the man out of the Hyundai and the canal and fire rescue personnel flew him to the HCA Florida Kendall Hospital, according to Camacho. The man died at the hospital.

All Turnpike lanes reopened around 3:30 p.m.
