KEY LARGO, Fla. – A Key Largo man was arrested Thursday after he attacked a Monroe County Sheriff’s Office sergeant, authorities announced Friday.

According to MCSO, David Ray Wyrick, 58, attacked Sgt. Robert Dosh by attempting to grab his service gun and stabbing him in the face.
Dosh was transported to Mariners Hospital in Tavernier before being transferred to HCA Florida Kendall Hospital due to injuries to one of his eyes.
Deputies said the attack occurred after Dosh and other deputies responded to a call around 4:45 p.m. in the area of County Road 905 regarding a man putting boulders in the roadway and tampering with fire hydrants.
That man was identified as Wyrick, who authorities said pulled out a pocketknife while speaking with deputies.
“He resisted arrest and was shocked with a Taser, but he continued to resist,” an MCSO news release stated. “Wyrick struck Sgt. Dosh in the face with a metal pipe with a nail attached to it while the Sheriff’s Office was attempting to place him in custody. Wyrick attempted to pull Sgt. Dosh’s firearm from its holster during the struggle. Wyrick also grabbed the firearm of another Deputy attempting to control him, however he never gained full control of either firearm.”
Wyrick was arrested on charges of attempted manslaughter, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, battery on a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and resisting arrest with violence.
“I am grateful the serious injuries to Sgt. Robert Dosh do not appear to be life-threatening, and that this suspect is in jail,” said Sheriff Rick Ramsay. “This incident is a reminder of the dangers law enforcement officers face each and every day they put on their uniform.”
