KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. ā€“ Gencom, a Miami-based investment firm, plans to close the Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne for a $100 million renovation.

Hundreds of employees work at the 13-story beachfront building, about 10 minutes away from Miamiā€™s Brickell neighborhood.

The South Florida Business Journal reported Thursday about 425 people who work at 455 Grand Bay Drive, will be unemployed soon.

According to a statement by Derek Flint, the market general manager at The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne, human resources worked ā€œclosely with employees to provide tailored support and employment options.ā€

Flint plans ā€œto welcome backā€ the staff ā€œas soon as possible once the hotel reopens.ā€

The employees have watched over 291 hotel rooms, 188 condominium units, a spa, pools, restaurants, bars, a tennis center, conference rooms, and a beachfront gazebo for weddings.
