MIAMI SPRINGS, Fla. – A former little league coach from Miami Springs is facing nearly two dozen charges related to child porn after a cyber tip led to his arrest, authorities confirmed Friday.
According to an arrest report from the Miami Springs Police Department, Adrian Cotera, 37, who previously coached tee-ball for children ages 5 and younger, was taken into custody after detectives linked his cellphone and online activity to child exploitation material.
The investigation began when police said National Center for Missing and Exploited Children alerted authorities about suspicious activity.
Detectives then traced the IP addresses connected to the files back to Cotera’s home where they found videos of children as young as 10 years old engaging in sexual activity, the report stated.
“There was a total of 20 videos in which in which I viewed that met the criteria (of) Child Sexual Abuse Material,” a responding officer wrote in the report.
Police said they placed Cotera under surveillance before stopping him in his vehicle, where they found a firearm and 21.5 grams of suspected cocaine in a bag.
Police said the narcotics were impounded and transported to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office crime lab for analysis.
“We do background checks on everybody, and I just want to emphasize that this person had no criminal history,” Miami Springs Police Chief Matthew Castillo said. “So if you see something concerning or something that doesn’t seem right, give us a call, tell your league president, tell another coach, and we’ll investigate it.”
Jail records show he is facing 20 counts of promoting sexual performance by a child and possession of an armed controlled substance.
MSPD said Cotera confessed to both charges and the investigation remains active and ongoing.
Police are urging anyone with a child that has been coached by Cotera to call 305-888-9711.
