Key West prosecutors announced Thursday that a grand jury had indicted Michael Demerjian and Mibsam Azaeel Barrios Jimenez for capital sexual batteries.
Monroe County State Attorney Dennis Ward and Chief Assistant State Attorney Joseph Mansfield announced Assistant State Attorney Colleen Dunne will aggressively prosecute the case.
“The nature of these charges is deeply disturbing,” Mansfield said.
Records show investigators met with the child who had moved to Walton County. According to the indictment, Barrios Jimenez, 21, of Key Largo, sexually abused the victim on or about Oct. 10.
Demerjian, 36, of Big Pine Key, allegedly sexually abused the child several times between June and July. He was arrested after he was accused of abusing another child.
In November, deputies arrested Demerjian while he was driving drunk with a 3-year-old child in the car, records show. Deputies reported finding Clonazepam, Gabapentin, and a glass pipe with meth in the car.
In January, a person who bought a used car from Demerjian told Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies that there was a cell phone in the car that had dozens of images of him sexually abusing a child, records show.
Investigators asked anyone with information about a child being exploited to call the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children at 1-800-843-5678.
