COOPER CITY, Fla. – A Broward County high school was temporarily placed on lockdown Wednesday morning after a social media post sparked concerns.
Broward Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Miranda Grossman confirmed to Local 10 that deputies responded to Cooper City High School, located at 9401 Stirling Road, around 9:20 a.m.
A spokeswoman with Broward County Public Schools told Local 10 a short time later that the incident stemmed from “a social media post regarding a possible weapon on campus.”
The spokeswoman said no weapons have been found on campus.
“All students and staff are safe,” she said.
“My parents got calls that (we were) Code Red under lockdown. Then they were saying we are secure, and now we are just out here,” student Mason Ciavatto told Local 10′s Roy Ramos.
The all clear has since been given, but prior to that, some parents hurried to the school to pick up their children.
“I am shaking,” one parent, Katie King, said. “It is very scary and I haven’t heard from my son, so it just worries me.”
No other details about the social media post were immediately released.
