Deputies with the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office stated that Perez, whose age was redacted in an arrest report, confronted his daughter shortly after learning she had been in a crash.

They said the argument escalated when Perez struck her twice on the left temple and pulled her hair.

The report states the dispute involved not only the accident, but also Perez being upset over the daughter’s need to “obey her parents.”

When the daughter’s boyfriend attempted to intervene, investigators said Perez chased him, threw him to the ground, and straddled him before squeezing his neck, cutting off his air supply.

Family members attempted to pull Perez away and he only stopped when his daughter threatened to call police, according to deputies.

Authorities said Perez’s daughter did not have any visible injuries. However, her boyfriend suffered scratches on the right side of his neck, a scratch above his right eyebrow, a small laceration inside his right lip, and an abrasion on his back left shoulder, according to the report.

Perez was taken into custody at the scene and later invoked his right to counsel during questioning at the MDSO’s Special Victims Bureau.

Jail records show he is facing one count of strangulation and two separate charges of battery.

As of Tuesday, Perez is being held on a $3,500 bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
