COCONUT CREEK, Fla. – A 30-year-old North Miami Beach man was killed early Tuesday morning in a crash on Florida’s Turnpike in Coconut Creek, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

FHP troopers said the crash happened around 1:47 a.m. in the southbound lanes near Mile Marker 66.
Investigators said the man, whose identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin, was driving a 2016 black Toyota RAV4 when he veered into the inside emergency lane for unknown reasons and collided with the rear of a parked 2020 red Freightliner tractor-trailer.
The impact caused the SUV to rotate and come to rest facing northeast authorities said.
Coconut Creek Fire Rescue transported the driver to Broward Health North, where he was pronounced dead at 2:23 a.m., according to investigators.
FHP said a 55-year-old Buffalo, New York, man was also in the SUV, but authorities did not disclose his condition.
No other details about the crash were immediately released.
