According to an arrest report, the 63-year-old victim was walking to her vehicle in a parking garage after work on Dec. 31 when she spotted an “odd” man loitering in the area.
Police said the victim entered her car and then started driving toward the exit when she spotted another woman she knows sitting inside her vehicle.
The victim then pulled up to the vehicle and alerted the woman about the suspicious man in the garage, authorities said.
Police said the man, who has since been identified as Fabrice Patrick Sibilia, 23, of Miami, the approached the victim and reached into her car, trying to snatch her cellphone from her hand.
According to the report, the victim was able to hold onto her phone and quickly drove off.
Police said the woman pulled over at a nearby loading dock and the other woman followed her to make sure she was OK.
According to the report, the victim got out of her car and walked to the other woman’s vehicle, talking to her through the driver’s side window, before Sibilia ran towards them, jumping into the victim’s car.
Police said the victim tried to stop Sibilia, but he punched her in the face and pushed her.
He then struck the woman with her own car as he drove away, dragging her before causing her to fall to the ground, authorities said.
Police said the woman’s belongings, including her cellphone, were still in the vehicle.
According to the report, surveillance video helped detectives link Sibilia to the crime.
Police said the victim’s car was found abandoned on Jan. 6, about a half-mile from Sibilia’s home.
According to the report, on the same day the vehicle was found, the witness identified Sibilia as the carjacker in a photo-lineup. The victim identified him in a photo lineup the following day.
Sibilia faces charges of robbery/carjacking and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
As of Tuesday afternoon, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond.
