SOUTH MIAMI, Fla. – Police officers accused a 32-year-old man of trying to kidnap a 16-year-old girl who fought back early Thursday morning in South Miami.
According to a police report, the teenage girl was “yelling and crying for help” while Brian Gamboa attacked her along Southwest 86 Street, near 62 Avenue.
According to the report, Gamboa, of Bronx, New York, grabbed her by the shoulders and the back of her neck, as she hit him with her cell phone at about 12:30 a.m.
6 p.m. report
The girl reported Gamboa was trying to get her into a blue car with a paper temporary tag, but decided to flee leaving behind a Gucci hat, police said.
The teen, who suffered lacerations and scratches all over her body, told police officers Gamboa reeked of alcohol, according to the police report.
Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office deputies stopped Gamboa at Southwest 85 Street and 57 Avenue and noticed “lacerations on his face, elbows, and knees” and “a contusion” on his head.
“Luckily, the victim fought back,” said South Miami Police Sgt. Fernando Bosch. “She was very brave, fought back, and was able to get away.”
Miami-Dade deputies detained Gamboa and when South Miami detectives asked him about the Gucci hat he said it belonged to him and deputies had “removed it” during the traffic stop.
“He suffered some injuries while trying to get the girl in the car,” Bosch said. “And he gave a story that he was at a beach and he got the injuries from sea shells.”
Local 10 News visited an address listed for Gamboa, but no one answered the door.
Inmate records show Miami-Dade correctional deputies booked Gamboa at 6 a.m., Thursday, at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Gamboa faced charges of attempted kidnapping and battery of a child. His bond was $30,000. He also had a warrant case for leaving the scene of an accident with property damage.
