Miramar ICE building evacuated after package containing unknown substance found

MIRAMAR, Fla. – A hazmat team responded to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement office in Miramar Thursday morning after a package was discovered there containing an unknown substance.

Sky 10 flew over the scene on Southwest 145th Avenue as first responders in hazmat suits were outside the building.

Miramar Fire Rescue officials said people were evacuated from inside the building around 8 a.m.

Video shows staff members and people with morning ICE appointments lined up across the street as the investigation was unfolding.

Hazmat teams from the Broward Sheriff’s Office and Hollywood arrived to investigate and assess any potential risks.

One person was seen being taken away in an ambulance, however, so far Miramar Fire Rescue says there is no immediate threat to public safety, and no emergency medical transports have been required.
