Fort Lauderdale welcomes search-and-rescue K9 Scout

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Three-year-old K9 Scout was at his Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue badge-pinning ceremony on Thursday to join USAR Task Force Two.

Fire Chief Stephen Gollan praised Erick Swartz, a firefighter, for training the search-and-rescue American Field Labrador to earn the national Live Find Certification in December.

Scout, a lieutenant, was eight weeks old when his training to respond to emergencies started and the department expects him to work about eight years before retirement.
