The Trust, which oversees funding dedicated to homelessness and directs the county’s homeless plan, submits the data annually to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to track homelessness trends.

“We know there is still much work to be done, but this data confirms we are making significant progress in reducing homelessness in Miami-Dade County,” said Ron Book, chair of the M-DCHT. “Our unsheltered count is the lowest it has been in more than a decade, demonstrating the effectiveness of our coordinated efforts with service providers, municipal partners and HUD.”

The 2025 PIT Census also recorded a 14% decrease in the number of family households experiencing homelessness and a 2% decline in chronically homeless individuals.

However, homelessness in that sector among parenting youth households, ages 18 to 24, rose by 64%.

Miami-Dade County currently has 3,728 homeless individuals, with 77% of them sheltered or living in homeless centers.

The PIT Census data serves as a key benchmark for assessing local homelessness interventions and guiding future policy decisions.

“We will continue to work to drive down the numbers humanely and without criminalization, with the goal of hitting functional zero,” added Book.
