MIAMI – A Miami-Dade judge called the man suspected of killing five people, four of them children, in a Miami Gardens crash in which authorities said he was driving nearly 100 mph, “a great danger” on Wednesday, ordering he be held without bond.
Antonio Wilcox, 25, of Naples, faced Judge Mindy Glazer on Wednesday, facing four counts of vehicular homicide and four counts of manslaughter.
Police said on Feb. 8, Wilcox was driving a vehicle that slammed into another vehicle at Northwest 170th Street and 37th Avenue, killing five people.
Investigators said Wilcox was driving 99 mph when he slammed into a white car with the victims inside. It was crushed against the SUV in front of them.
Ten-year-olds Ireanna Johnson and Kamari Graham, 8-year-old Azariah McCall and 51-year-old grandmother Rosa Mary Jones died on impact.
Thirteen-year-old Ka’Myra Graham died on Saturday. Prosecutors said additional counts of vehicular homicide and manslaughter will be added.
The siblings’ mother, Donika Johnson, and their 7-year-old friend Cyrus Rankin remained in the hospital.
The judge ordered Wilcox to remain behind bars, saying “I believe Wilcox poses a great danger to this community and the fact he killed five people driving. He may not have been over the legal limit, but it shows he did have alcohol in his system at the time.”
Wilcox is scheduled to appear in front of a division judge Thursday ahead of a pre-trial detention hearing.
