South Miami to offer new free app-based ride-share service

SOUTH MIAMI, Fla. – South Miami announced Tuesday that the city will have a new free door-to-door ride-share service.

The app-based public service starts Feb. 27 and is linked to Miami-Dade County’s MetroConnect app.

It will run in South Miami from noon to 11 p.m. Thursday to Saturday and from noon to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday.

It will also connect to Dadeland South and Dadeland North from 5:30 a.m. to 7 p.m., on weekdays; 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., on Saturdays; and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Sundays.

To run it, the city switched tech providers from Freebe to Via, which promises a “highly efficient digital network.”

According to city records, South Miami started to offer “free point-to-point on-demand transportation” through Freebee in November 2020.
